This is my ‘Top-Down’ project idea:
This project would explore the display of type (or images?) in a three- dimensional space in such a way that the message only becomes clear from a certain vantage point.
One possible execution would involve a large array of light bulbs hanging from the ceiling at different points in X, Y and Z space. As a user types on a keyboard the appropriate bulbs are lit to form the message. Any viewers not standing in the proper viewing position will see a random display of lights.
In a medium quickly shifting from traditional hard copy output to computer displays, this project emphasizes the ephemeral quality of digital type and language itself.
