Class Show Ideas

Here are some ideas for our class show in December:

  • Thinking about Amit’s spiel about how interactive art can connect with people in new ways… Really experiencing interactive work is a lot like early childhood. You touch something and wait to see what happens, trying to learn how what you are doing is effecting the outcome. Maybe the title could be something like “Play”, although that might suggest that the whole thing is about games.

  • “Touch Me” — maybe not.

  • “ExperienciFragilisticExpialadocious”? Man, this is hard.

  • “Art Machines” — because they are machines that make art. And so are we. Also a reference to the greater, more nebulous Art Machine that controls us all.

  • Maybe instead of trying to fight everyone’s preconceived notions about technology and interactive art, we should embrace them and call the show something like “It Came frome the FUTURE”. The invites/posters could be some kind of really campy B-Movie thing.

Ok, I’m terrible at this. I think so far the best idea proposed was Devon’s “Feedback”. I think it makes sense in a lot of ways. It has the technical aspect of programmatic feedback, but also addresses the unique aspect of interactive art—that it gives you feedback when you use it (as opposed to a painting which just kind of stares back at you). It can also refer to analog feedback (like noise or static or whatever) and it sounds techy and cool, but not overly so like “Transistor” or “C://run”. So I vote for Feedback.
